Mr. Sylvester Wilson, Jr.

Mr. Sylvester Wilson, Jr. began his 83-year life journey on January 7, 1939 in Talladega, AL to the late Sam Wilson and Mildred Jemison Wilson. At an early age, he accepted Christ and united with The Church of Christ. Mr. Wilson was educated in the Talladega City School System where he attended Westside High School and later completed his General Educational Development tests before joining the military at the age of 17. Mr. Wilson served 4 years in the U.S. Airforce with an E-3 rank and 3 years in the U.S. Army with an E-4 rank. Although he dedicated his services to his country, Mr. Wilson knew education was important, so he continued furthering his educational skills and knowledge by attending the University of Alabama and Gadsden State with only 12 hours left before earning his BS in accounting. Mr. Wilson remained in the Army Reserve for many years. Once he returned to civilian life, Mr. Wilson began his working career at Newbury Foundry and Bonnett Mill. He later retired from Anniston Army Depot after 30 years; but because he was such a hard-working man, after retiring, he worked 17 years at Brecon Knitting Mill. As Sylvester traveled this earthly journey, he met the love of his life, the former Miss Shirley Broughton and they were later united in Holy Matrimony enjoying over 52 blessed years of marriage and sharing the blessing of six loving children. Affectionately known as "June" to his family and friends, Mr. Wilson loved and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. After retirement, he was able spend countless hours on the banks fishing and working in his garden, which was a passion he relished. When he was not out fishing and working in his garden, you could find him somewhere working on something. He loved to work and, but often times, Mr. Wilson could be found sitting on his porch just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sunlight with a breath of fresh air. On Saturday morning, November 5, 2022 Mr. Sylvester "June" Wilson, Jr. peacefully entered into eternal rest while surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mildred Wilson, brothers, Robert Wilson, Tyrone Wilson, and Bruce Wilson. Mr. Wilson leaves a legacy of love and memories that will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones: his devoted wife of over 52 years, Shirley Wilson, four sons, Gary (Mary)Wilson of Anniston, Darrell (Teresa) Wilson of Huntsville, Anthony (Missy) Wilson of Kentucky, and Rodney (Coretta) Wilson of Talladega; two daughters, Sylvia (Salvador Rivera) Hearn of Jacksonville, Florida and April (Spencer B. Bibb) Wilson of Talladega; four brothers, Woodrow (Shirley) Wilson, Billy Wilson, DeWitt (Rena)Wilson and Wayne (Patricia Simmons) Wilson all of Talladega; two sisters, Barbara Spratling of Talladega and Benita (Harry) Gooden of Oxford; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Wilson, Nathaniel Hearn Jr., Kiana Hearn, Monique Madden, Anthony Wilson, Jr., Rodney N. Wilson, Chase Wilson, Jaden Wilson, JazLynn Bibb and Spencer T. Bibb.; eight great-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.
