Ruth Russell

Born on April 29, 1952, in Talladega, Alabama, Mrs. Ruth Ellen Calhoun Russell was the beloved daughter of Charlie and Marie Calhoun. A devoted servant of the Lord, Mrs. Russell accepted Christ early in her life and became a faithful member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Munford, Alabama, where she nurtured her spiritual growth and fostered community bonds. Ruth received her formal education through the Talladega County School System, climaxing her studies at Ophelia S. Hill High School. Following her education, she dedicated many years to the poultry industry at Tyson Foods, demonstrating steadfast commitment to her work. As health challenges arose, Ruth gracefully embraced her role as a homemaker, channeling her love into caring for her grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy in her life. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond family, as she lovingly tended to her neighbors by ensuring their hair was styled and their spirits lifted. Those who knew Ruth will remember her as a gentle, compassionate soul-a matriarch whose love knew no bounds. With an infectious smile and a heart full of kindness, she had a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Ruth had a gift for cooking, delighting family and friends alike with her culinary creations, and she cherished every moment spent in the kitchen. Her passion for music and dance brought vibrancy to her life, while her regular outings to the beauty shop and shopping trips were cherished rituals that reflected her joyful spirit. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the lasting impressions she made on all who loved her. Ruth Ellen Calhoun Russell 73-year life journey was completed on March 5, 2025 when she peacefully answered her Master's call for eternal rest while surrounded by loved ones under the care of Brookwood Citizen's Baptist Medical Center. Once gaining her heavenly wings, she was reunited with her husband, Donald V. Russell, parents, Charlie and Marie Calhoun, son, Donald Russell, Jr. siblings, Annie Garrett and Thomas Calhoun, and granddaughter, Reagan Russell. Mrs. Russell's loving memories will forever be remembered and cherished by her three sons, Tyrone Russell, Reginald (Darlene) Russell, and Anthony (Missy) Russell; daughter, Eliza Welch; siblings, Josephine Garrett, Willie Ruth Lawson, Hubert (Ella Sue) Calhoun, and John Calhoun; extended family, Robbie (Leroy) Angels, Tommy and Mae Frances Russell, Margaret Estelle, Brenda Russell, Linda Doobay, and Lola Mae Madden; grandchildren, Jasmine Russell, Tyesha Russell, Anthony Russell, Jr., Antonia Russell, Antavia Russell, Quilla Russell, Richard Russell, Janai Turner, Michael Smith, Zekya Welch, Jordan Welch, Jakvriah Welch, and Ke'Aylah Welch; ten great-grandchildren; devoted caregiver, Gloria Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In this time of sorrow, let us also celebrate the life of Ruth Russell-the love, laughter, and light she brought into the world will live on in our memories and hearts forever. We love you dearly, you were a great mother to all of us. We will miss you dearly. From your children.
