Mr. Roy Wilson Sr

Roy L. Wilson, Sr. sixty-five-year earthly journey began when he was born to the late Charner Dates and Tommie Lee Garrett on June 18, 1957 in Talladega, Alabama. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the male chorus and remained a faithful member until his passing. He loved going to church, praying, and singing gospel songs. Mr. Wilson was a vibrant and loyal servant of the Lord and enjoyed praising and working in his vineyard. He received his formal education in the Talladega County School System and was a graduate of Talladega County Training School, known today as Talladega County Central High School. Once completing school, Mr. Wilson worked several textiles jobs before becoming a member of Birmingham's Union Local 559. After over twenty-five years of dedicated work as a contractor and laborer in the construction industry, retirement was the key to spending more time with family and friends, and enjoying the beauty of life. Mr. Wilson was a long-time member of Antioch Lodge 58A serving for over 30 years. Along Mr. Wilson's path in life, he found love in his soulmate of over thirty-four years, the former Ms. Mary L. Garrett. On May 17, 2001, the two became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony sharing the blessing of four children, Roy, Jr., Demetrius, Erinnakita, and LaKeitha. Affectionately known as "Chubby" by family and friends, Mr. Wilson, enjoying sitting around home with his family relaxing and he loved going out to dinner. He made sure he kept up with all the latest news in the community while talking to family and friends on the telephone, but during football season, there was no interfering with him and the television when the Auburn Tigers were playing. There is no secret that Mr. Wilson was a true die-hard "War Wagle" fan. "Chubby" will be missed immensely by all his loved one, family, and friends. Mr. Wilson peacefully traded his working tools for eternal rest when he accepted the call of his Master on Friday evening, September 30, 2022 while under the care of Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded by his father, Charner Dates. He leaves behind a legacy of love and precious memories to be cherished by his caring and devoted wife, Mary L. Wilson; two sons, Demetrius (Glenice) Garrett and Roy L. (Marquita) Wilson, Jr., both of Alpine, AL; two daughters, Erinnakita Garrett, of Alpine, AL and LaKeitha Garrett of Charleston, SC; four brothers, Victor (Debbie) Wilson and Terry (Rhonda) Wilson of Munford, AL, Jerome Wilson of Alpine, AL and Johnny (Mary Ann) Guyton of Lincoln, AL; five sisters, Barbara Garrett and Everlyn Wilson of Alpine, AL, Naomi Garrett of Talladega, AL, Juliette Jones of Anniston, AL, and Cynthia Dates of Childersburg, AL; five grandchildren, Shakevis Garrett, Amiya Wilson, Alajiah Garrett, Kyngston Garrett, and Aaliyah Wilson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Garrett jones of Talladega, AL; brothers-in-law, John W. (Sylvia) Garrett and James G. Garrett, both of Alpine, AL and Arthur (Wanda) Swain and James E. Garrett, both of Talladega, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
