Roman King

Roman King, the loving son of Arthur King and Isma Williams King was born on October 5, 1947 in Talladega, Alabama. Growing up in Talladega, Alabama, he embraced his faith and became a dedicated member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Roman served the church in various capacities, including as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and choir director. His commitment to his faith and the church community was unwavering. Education played a significant role in Roman's life. After attending Nottingham School, Westside Elementary, and Antioch School and continued his education at Talladega County Training School. Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, Roman furthered his education at Nunally Technical College. His thirst for knowledge guided him throughout his life. Roman dedicated himself to serving his country and enlisted in the United States Marines. His honorable discharge included several commendations, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Roman's bravery and loyalty were commendable. Following his honorable service, Roman embarked on a fruitful career. He first worked as a Labor Foreman for over 20 years before joining the Federal Bureau of Prisons. During his time there, Roman served as a Correctional Officer and Maintenance Foreman. After a long and successful career, he retired on August 3, 2000, having attained the role of Sports Specialist. Roman enjoyed various hobbies and pastimes. He found solace in watching westerns and casting his fishing line into the tranquil waters of the nearby riverbanks. An electrician by trade, Roman also loved working on wood projects, showcasing his creativity and craftsmanship. Above all, he treasured cherished moments with his family, engaging in board games and offering guidance and support as a coach. Roman King peacefully departed from this earthly realm on January 6, 2024, at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, and respected member of the community. His passing has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Once entering those pearly gates, he was welcomed home by his parents, Arthur and Isma King, his father Sylvester Pointer, his loving mother-in-law Eleanor Stockdale Curry and father-in-law Elvin Ball Sr., three grandchildren, Neil, Uriah, Jaylen, brothers, Leon Turner, Arthur Williams, Carlton Pointer, Pluma Keith, and Milton Wells, sisters, Jennie King Calhoun, Patricia Wells, Lelia King, Elvira King Calhoun, Mary Keith, Norma Pointer, Michelle Watson, and Sherry Scott, and brother-in-law, Timothy Cooper. Roman's legacy lives on through the cherished memories he leaves behind for his devoted wife of 54 years, Paulette King; four sons, Roman Derick (Alseca) King, Corey Lamar King, DeMarko Antoine King, and Nicholas Paul (LaTesha) King,; his beloved daughter, Ayanna Amelia King; Goddaughter, Kayla Bell; bonus mother, Clara Pointer Richardson; three brothers, Lewis (Deborah) King, Michael (Alma) King, and Joe (Tonessa) McFarlin; four sisters, Vennie Taylor, Tonya Pointer, Sylvia Emery, and Antonnette (Darryl) Hubbard; brothers in law Arthur P. Curry, Ralph Ball and Elvin Ball Jr.; sisters-in-law, Nora F. Cooper, Patricia Lard, and Jaqueline Ball; grandchildren, TaCorian, Justin, Jarvis, Aaron, Jessica, Shenae, Emiah, Corey II, Yesenia, Amarious, Okino, Larkicia, China, Noah, Ashton, Destini, Jelena, Jovani, Journey, Jakya, Tynekeya, Jaylah, TaDarius, Delvecceehius, Breatrice, Gabrielle, Nia, Cor'Tavian, Adrianna, and Amari; great-grandchildren, Justin, Christian, Myzel, Alahni, Jordyn, Khamari, Azuri, Amiree, Savannah, Corinna, Kennedy, Jordan, and Aria; brothers-in-law, Joel Watson, Elvin Ball Jr., and Ralph Ball; aunt, Jane Peters; his absence will also be deeply felt by his longtime colleagues and good friends, Willie C. Tuck, Bernard Tuck, Stewart Bridgman, and Willie Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In this time of loss and grief, let us come together to remember Roman King as a compassionate, loving, and dedicated individual who made an indelible impact on the lives of those around him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory live on through the stories and laughter shared by those fortunate enough to have known him.
