Onieka McKenzie

Born on November 8, 1983, in Talladega, Alabama, Onieka Mckenzie was the precious daughter of Elizabeth "Cat" McKenzie and L.M. Lynch. Onieka's kind heart and cheerful spirit touched the lives of those around her. She found joy in ensuring that her surroundings were spotless and welcoming, earning her a position as a custodian in the environmental services industry. Her dedication and attention to detail were admired by all. But above all, her true passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, whom she cherished dearly. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior while attending Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clarence Henderson. Onieka received her formal education in the Talladega City School System. She attended Talladega High School and carried the lessons she learned throughout her life. Her perseverance and strong work ethic were evident in everything she did. In her leisure time, Onieka enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved gathering with family and friends, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories. Her contagious smile could light up any room, and her warm heart ensured everyone felt loved and important in her presence. After a life lived with love, generosity, and a dedication to her family, Onieka McKenzie, a beloved member of the Talladega community, left this world on October 30, 2023, while under the care of UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Once gaining her wings, she was reunited with her beloved mother, Elizabeth "Cat" McKenzie, grandparents, L.C. and Mae Wilma Mckenzie and L.M. and Exie Lee Maxwell, brother, Mikel Jemison, aunt, Joyce Dean McKenzie, and uncle, William L. McKenzie. Onieka McKenzie's legacy lives on through her son Shuntavis Twyman; two daughters, Kytaja Brown and Dontaja Brown; her adored grandson Kace L. Sanders; father L.M. (Crystal) Lynch; three brothers, L.M. McKenzie, Tyrone McKenzie, and Kentavis McKenzie; three sisters, Jessica McKenzie, Eboni Watts, and Keyondra Lynch; five aunts, Margie (Robert) Briskey, Barbara M. Curry, Mattie (Bertis) Pope, Lynda (Mark) Hann, and Rosie (Robert) Holt; six uncles, Henry Lee McKenzie, Johnny McKenzie, Lawrence (Rena) Lynch, Clifford Maxwell, Jamar Maxwell, and Frederick Maxwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who held a special place in her heart and will forever cherish the memories they created with her. Onieka McKenzie's departure leaves a void in our lives, but her memory will always shine brightly in our hearts. May we find solace in the beautiful moments shared with her and the everlasting impact she had on our lives. Rest in eternal peace, dear Onieka McKenzie. Your legacy of love, perseverance, and generosity will live on and continue to inspire us all.
