Nathaniel Player Sr

Mr. Nathaniel Player, Sr. was born on October 15, 1940 to the parentage of Lawrence D. Gaddis and Luevator Estelle in Talladega, Alabama. Mr. Player accepted Christ at a young age and united with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the deacon board. He was educated in the Talladega County School system and from this comprehension, he was able to gain employment with the Birmingham Housing Authority. After nearly twenty-five years of commuting from Alpine to Birmingham on a daily basis, Mr. Player retired and lived his life to the fullest. As Mr. Player traveled this 81-year earthly journey, he met the beautiful Mary Frances Swain. He and Mary Frances soon became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony and to this union, three children were born, Eleanor, Julius, and Nathaniel, Jr. Mr. Player, known as "Pete" to some and "Lil Pete" to others was a loving and caring grandfather. He loved his grandchildren with all his heart and each one on them bared a name that he had given them in addition to their birth name. If you knew him, you know his conversation would always start off with "Let Me Tell You About My Grandchildren". He loved talking to people and keeping up with all the latest news in the community. On the morning of Saturday, October 1, 2022, Nathaniel Player, Sr. was called from labor to eternal rest as he transitioned from this 81-year walk of life while under the care of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice at Brookwood Citizen's Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Frances Swain Player, parents, Lawrence D. Gaddis and Luevator Estelle, sisters, Maezonia Smith and Evelyn Patterson, brother, James Estelle, and granddaughter, Julia "Peaches" Player. Mr. Player is survived by his five children, Eleanor (Roy) Swain, Julius Player, Sr., Nathaniel (Angela) Player, Jr., Bernadine Garrett, and Alpha (Lee) Finnie; grandchildren, Constance Garrett, Cortney (Martika) Swain, Dr. April (Rolley) Jones, Derek Swain, Julius Player, Jr., Sydney Player, LaDerrick Stamps, Ashley Ann Woolverton, Ashlyn Grace Stone, Curtis (Lakedria) Garrett, Tavius Garrett, Markeise (Bernard) Twymon; great-grandchildren, Chasity Player, Dakayla Swain, Tarius Garrett, Jr., Madison Rice, Julia Garrett, Nia Jones, Cortlynn Swain, Rolley Jones, Ezra Swain, Azlynn and Alora Swain, Jasmine, Brian, Asiah, Tristan, Omarie, Kaylie, Ariauna, Jacobie, Alyssa, Anyssa, Aubrey, Kylia, Jordan, Iv'Bri and D'Aire; sister, Judy Estelle; brother, John E. Player, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
