Mary Catherine Nixon

Mary Catherine Lewis Nixon graced this world embodied with a spirit filled with love on July 23, 1950, in Tappahannock, Virginia to the late King Solomon Lewis and Mary Ella Booth Lewis. Mary, a woman of unwavering faith, accepted Christ early in life. Her walk with the Lord lead her to unite with Murray Temple CME Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member. She had an immense love for the Lord, which guided her every step. Mary loved to worship and never missed an opportunity to express her faith. Her worship was a source of strength not only for herself, but also for those around her. Mary, affectionately known as "Cat" by her family and friends, graduated from Dunbar Senior High School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1969. In 1975, she met the love of her life, Gregory Nixon, Sr and wed in 1977. Mary moved to Anniston, Alabama with her husband and started a family. Mary was gainfully employed with HeadStart in Anniston, AL for over 30 years and touched the lives of countless students. In her spare time, Mary found joy in listening to music and watching court shows and Family Feud on TV. On Sunday morning, September 7, 2025, Mary Nixon answered the Master's call and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, King Solomon and Mary Lewis; husband, Rev. Gregory L Nixon, Sr.; sister, Marie Bryant; and brothers, Marcellous Lewis and Solomon Henry Lewis. Mary Nixon leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, Terrance (Cynthia) Nixon of Baltimore, Maryland, Cassandra (Jerry) Nixon of Weaver, AL, Monique Nixon of Anniston, AL, and Gregory (Gabriel) Nixon, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Shirley Miller of New Jersey and Geraldine Davis of Maryland; brother, William Lewis; brothers-in-law, Dan (Mae) Nixon, Jr. and Michael (Juanette) Nixon; sister-in-law, Kim Nixon; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Let us gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman who loved fiercely, worshipped wholeheartedly, and lived life to the fullest. May her spirit continue to inspire joy and connection, just as she did in life.
