Mary Hodge

On January 29, 1958, in Talladega, Alabama, Mary Alice Moore Hodge began her 65-year earthly journey when she was welcomed to the world by her beloved parents Roosevelt Moore and Lillie Mae Groce Moore. Ms. Hodge committed her life to Christ and united with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She received her formal education at Hannah J Mallory School in the Talladega County School System and was a graduate of Talladega County Training High School. Upon completing school, Ms. Hodge enlisted in the United States Army where she served her country faithfully for over twenty years including two tours in Iraq. While in the military, she worked privately in Florida for over 20 years with DynCorp. Prior to returning to civilian life, Ms. Hodge was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Badge (M-16), Sharpshooter Badge (M-16) Rifle, and the Army Lapel Button. Her military education included SNIPERS Unit Level Training, SNIPERS MILPO Level Training, Sharpshooter Badge (M-16) Rifle, and Administrative Specialist Course. As traveled her 65-year blessed earthly journey, she became the devoted mother of 2 loving children, Jason and Christopher Watkins. She loved her children with all her heart. There was nothing she enjoyed better than keeping her grandchildren and taking care of her family except watching the ID channel, with a nice little candle glowing and her cup of coffee or one of her famous specialty drinks. She loved sitting around the house relaxing and love to have people stop by to visit because she did not like leaving her home for much of anything. Whenever you saw Ms. Hodge, she was going to greet you with a beautiful smile that would light up the darkest room. If you knew her, you knew she was the most lovable person, always grinning and had the sweetest spirit one could imagine. She loved to cook and was known for her amazing pecan pies. Traveling was definitely a joy to Ms. Hodge, as she loved traveling with her sisters. Every now and then, when she would feel a bit lucky, she would travel to Wetumpka and press her luck on the slots. Ms. Hodge is truly going to be missed by not only her family, but all the lives she has touched in some way while on this journey. On the morning of Friday, May 26, 2023, after 65 blessed years on this earthly journey, God beckoned for Ms. Hodge to accept her heavenly wings while in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Preceding her in death were her parents, Roosevelt and Lillie Moore, and brother, Robert Pointer, Jr. She leaves to cherish an everlasting legacy of love and memories, two sons, Jason C. (Jeannetta) Watkins and Christopher (Starr) Watkins; seven sisters, Minnie Whiteside, Bobbie S. Dixon, Sarah L. Pointer, Thelma Briskey, Maxine Stockdale, Cynthia (Michael) Nelson, and Michelle Moore; grandchildren, Ahmad Watkins, Ahmadia Watkins, Cayden Watkins, Kyle Johnson, Londyn Johnson, Jade Watkins, Reina Watkins, Tori Williams, Tynnia Bailey, Tyasia Johnson, and Hausun Wynn; one great-grandchild, Anastasia Kendell; sister-in-law, Doris Pointer; special friends, Shantika Williams and Aura Castillo Lopez; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
