Marie Adams

Mother Marie Antionette McCann-Adams was one of those gifts given to the body of Christ, her family and friends. She was born on July 4, 1943 , the first child of three, to Elder John W. McCann and Sis. Velma McCann in Talladega, AL. A lifelong resident of Talladega, Alabama, Marie graduated from Westside High School in May 1963. After successfully completing her high school education, she was employed by the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind School from October 8, 1976, and retiring on July 1, 2003, as a Laundry Aide. She loved the students and staff at AIDB. Her love for people carried over to her family and their well-being. It carried over to her finding true love with Deacon Jeremiah Adams whom she married on November 21, 1987. They were married for ten years until his death in 1997. Marie was a woman of faith, prayer warrior and believed in doing everything she put hands to do in excellence. In her spare time, she loved to travel church gatherings, traveling g out of town with friends and family. She loved visiting along with one of her best friends Sis. Edith Brown the residents at Talladega Healthcare weekly in praying and encouraging them, the residents truly enjoyed their visitations with them all. Mother Marie was also an excellent cook; all her foods and assorted desserts were homemade. Her specialty was her homemade pound cakes which were loved by her family and friends. It was evident to Mother Adams parents and to others early on that she was indeed a gifted and chosen vessel. Mother Adams was baptized in Jesus' Name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 17 on December 20, 1960. That presence of God in her life enabled her too almost "do it all." As one of the founding members at the Refuge Church, she was a faithful, true daughter of the house and a willing worker who committed herself to fulfilling any acts of service that would promote the Kingdom of God at Refuge. During her nearly 64 years of membership there, she served under Bishop Milton H. Hill and his successor, Elder James Jackson and now Pastor Elder Willie Best, in various capacities as: Treasurer of the Refuge Church Minister/Deacon Wives Department, Member of the Missionary Department /Choir Member of the Refuge Church Choir On February 28, 2025, Mother Marie A. McCann Adams peacefully transitioned into the presence of The Almighty God where she is now resting from labor to her reward. The "gift" bestowed upon us in 1943 has now returned to her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elder John W. McCann and Sis. Velma McCann, her husband, Deacon Jeremiah Adams, her daughter Miss Felicia McCann, brother in laws: Mr. Link Adams, Mr. Albert Adams, Mr. Carl Johnson, sister in laws: Mrs. Louise White, Lois Ware, and her beloved sister Mother Barbara McCann- Johnson . The legacy of Mother Marie A. McCann-Adams lives on in the memory of her devoted brother Mr. John E. McCann of Talladega, AL, brother in law Mr. Tennyson (Debra) Adams of Woodmere, Ohio, two sister in laws Mrs. Patricia King of Birmingham, AL and Mrs. Julia Adams of Talladega, AL ; Beloved Nephew , Mr. Dettrick Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama; Beloved Niece , Miss Barneka Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Best Friends: Ms. Jackie Ray of Mansfield, OH and Mother Edith Brown of Talladega, AL. Special Neighbor: Ms. Sylvia Garrett of Talladega, AL Honorary Nieces/ Nephew: Mahogany Garrett, Cheyenne Garrett and Baby Za'Kayden of Talladega, AL. Special Friends of the Family: Psalmist Denita Gibbs of Nashville, TN, The Gibbs Family of Birmingham, AL and Elder Willie (Nadine) Best of Talladega, AL. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The entire Refuge (COOLJC) Church Family and the Alabama State Diocese Family.
