Mae Francis Jenkins

Mrs. Mae Francis Jenkins was born on May 21, 1949, in Alpine, Alabama, to the late Annie Joe Lawson Calhoun and the late James Calhoun. Mae was a woman of deep faith and was an active member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. She dedicated her time and talent to the church, especially in preparing meals for various events. Mae's love for her church and community was evident in her unwavering commitment to spreading kindness and compassion. Upon receiving her formal education, Mae worked as a nutritionist in the Hobson City School District, bringing her professional expertise to ensure the well-being of students. She made a lasting impact on the lives of many young minds, displaying her passion for nurturing and caring for others. Mae had a zest for life and found joy in simple pleasures. She found solace in tending to her garden, cultivating beautiful flowers that bloomed under her tender care. Mae also had a love for sewing for herself and her loved ones. Family was at the core of Mae's existence, and she cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. The gleam in her eyes whenever she saw them was a testament to the profound love and pride she held for them. Mae was affectionately known as "Mom" throughout the neighborhood, a title that reflected her nurturing nature and the impact she had on those around her. Mae Francis Jenkins, a beloved member of the Silver Run community, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the age of 74 at her home while surrounded by loved ones. Once entering those pearly gates she was welcomed with opened arms by her husband, Johnny Jenkins, parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Calhoun; two brothers, Harry Calhoun and Walter Calhoun; and son-in-law, Glovest Swain. Mae Francis Jenkins is survived by her son, Jermaine Jenkins; two daughters, Michelle Jenkins and Johnnie Gail Swain; three bonus daughters, Rita Underwood, Rose (Norris) Sistrunk, and Dorothy Kirksey; three brothers, Roger (Mae Francis) Calhoun, John Henry (Brenda) Calhoun, and Perry (Annette) Calhoun; four sisters, Millerneace Swain, Janice (Andre) Phillips, Beverly (Tommy) Swain, and Carolyn (Kenneth) Richmond; six grandchildren, Jameka Jenkins, Tatyana Jenkins, Jermaine Jenkins, Antwannette Goggins, Kimora Jenkins, and Jaleah Jenkins; God granddaughter, Lydia Dobbs; three aunts, Sarah Williams, Janie Lawson, and Earnestine L. Garrett; uncle, Frank Lawson; special cousin, Juliette Jones; special caregivers, Edward DeWayne Johnson, Calvin Jackson, and Shelitha Underwood; seven bonus grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Laura Calhoun, Joyce Calhoun, and Sergeant Janet (Steve) Hawkins; two special friends, Barbara Williams and Maggie Dorman; and a host of other relatives and friends. The legacy of Mae Francis Jenkins will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her compassion, warmth, and spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, leaving an indelible mark on the community she called home. May the soul of Mae Francis Jenkins find eternal peace, comforted by the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind.
