Larry Chatman

Mr. Larry Chatman was born on March 3, 1955 in Talladega, Alabama to the union of Samuel Chatman, Sr. and Mary Jones Chatman. At an early age Larry accepted Christ and united with New Maryland. He received his formal education in the Talladega County School System and attended Winterboro High School. Once completing his education, Larry began his working career as a contractor in the construction industry. As Larry travel this walk of life, he met his soulmate, the former Barbara Ann Garrett. In August 1984, the two became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony sharing 38 years of marriage and together, they were blessed with the gift of three loving and caring sons, Michael, Corey and Cederic and one bonus son, LaCorrian. Larry was affectionately well- known in his community and by his family and friends as "Bo Peep", but he was passionately known by his grandchildren as "Pop-Pop". He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but his passion was landscaping. Larry always kept a beautiful yard and loved gardening. Before his health failed, you could catch him in his yard daily making sure his flowers, plants and grass were well maintained. Often times you could find him sitting in the yard under the shade trees conversing with his family and neighborhood friends. Larry "Bo Peep" Chatman solemnly answered God's call on Monday, May 23, 2022, while under the care of Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama surrounded by his loved ones. Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Samuel Chatman, Sr. and Mary Chatman; son Michael Garrett; brothers, James Chatman, Sr., Charles Chatman, Sr., Willie C. Chatman, Samuel Chatman, Jr. David Chatman, William Chatman and Lawrence Chatman; sisters, Sarah Ann Twyman, Betty Spencer, Gloria Jean Ashley and Vanessa Chatman; mother and father-in-law, Austin and Hannah Garrett and brother-in-law, Edward Garrett. Larry's memories will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Barbara Ann Chatman; sons, Corey Garrett, Cederic (Jasmine) Chatman, LaCorrian Calhoun and Toya (Evett) Garrett; daughter, Shantavia Garrett; brothers, Ambro Chatman, Sr. and Terry Chatman; sisters, Susie Chatman and Carolyn McMillian; sisters-in-law, Essie (Greg) Garrett and LaFrances (Pervis Clark) Garrett; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Erica) Garrett, Kenneth (Marainee) Garrett, John Garrett and William Ashley; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
