Kalekia Shameayon Truss

On November 12, 2025, the world lost a vibrant spirit with the passing of Kalekia Shameayon Truss, affectionately known as "PC." Born on August 10, 1985, in Talladega, Alabama, Kalekia was a beloved daughter of Victoria Truss Chatman and Lovell Chatman, and she enriched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth and laughter. From a young age, Kalekia embraced her faith, becoming a devoted member of Reagan Chapel C.M.E. Church before later joining the congregation at Howard Chapel C.M.E. Church. Her spiritual journey was profound, and she served her church community with great commitment until God called her home. Her education began in the Talladega County School System, culminating in a high school diploma from Munford High School in the Class of 2003. Kalekia proudly nurtured her culinary passion early in her career days, contributing to the restaurant industry and working with the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). Kalekia was known for her ability to light up a room with her cheerful personality. She delighted in conversations with family and friends, often checking in on her cherished nieces and nephews, whom she affectionately referred to as her "babies." Her caring nature and love for her family rendered her a devoted granddaughter, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend. As we reflect on the joyful memories created with Kalekia, we also take time to acknowledge those who welcomed her into eternal peace: her grandfather, Walter Truss; great-grandparents, George and Ninnie Moore, and J.C. and Mattie Turner; nephew, LaRyine Truss; brother, Walter McKenzie, Jr.; uncle, Marvin Fair; and aunts, Fannie Gooden and Willie Anne Swain. Kalekia's legacy will live on through her loving parents, Victoria and Lovell Chatman; father, Walter McKenzie, Sr.; grandmother, Pinkie Truss; brothers Ryine (Olivia) Truss and Kevin (Jennifer) McKenzie; sisters, Cassandra (Derricko) Swink, Sharetta (Ozzie) Petite, Stephanie Truss, Tammy (Alexander) McGhee, and Shirlenna (Austin) Truss; nieces, LaKenya Draper, Jadyn Swink, Lanae' Petite, and Ryileigh Truss; nephews, Jahmari Swink, Aaron Truss, Le'Shawn Petite, Ryilan Truss, and Ryine Truss; aunts, Rosemary (Robert) Stockdale, Elsie (Alphonso) Tuck, Serena Truss, Rhonda (Fred) Tidwell, Sandra Truss, and Kiundra Fair, Janet (Cecil) Miller, Linda (Pastor Brian) Miller, Rose Turner; uncles, George (Angel) Moore, Walter (Stephanie) Truss, Jr., Eddie (Josephine) Moore, Wallace (TaKeshia) Truss, William Chatman, and Steve Chatman; and a host of devoted cousins, other relatives and numerous friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. As we honor Kalekia's life and spirit, we will make her final services a reverent celebration of her journey that will reflect her vibrant spirit and unwavering faith. We will always remember her joyous life and reminisce about the love and light she brought to our lives. As we say goodbye to Kalekia, may we hold her cherished memories close and honor the legacy of love she leaves behind. Though she may be gone from this earth, her spirit will forever soar in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Kalekia. You will be missed.
