Jo Ann Ware

Ms. Jo Ann Ware departed this life peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born the fourth child of twelve children to the late John Edward and Vonnie Marie Ware in Anniston, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vonnie M. Ware; three brothers, Gregory Lamar Ware, Dr. Lawrence Ricardo Ware, Attorney Charles Jerome Ware; two sisters, Johnnie Sean Ware and Laura Ware Jacobs; two nephews, Dr. Brian Sean Register and Mark Edward Register; one niece, Delmarshae Vonnette Fleming. Jo Ann accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Grace Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. P. W. Stephens. From early childhood, Ms. Ware served her church faithfully in numerous capacities. She was a very devoted Christian following closely in the footsteps of her older sisters. She attended many conventions, workshops, Bible schools, and conferences. Jo Ann began her education at Grace Lutheran School and later transferred to Cobb Avenue High School, graduating with honors. Following high school, she attended Alabama State College where she majored in Elementary Education and minored in Home Economics. From there, she received her Bachelor of Science degree and began teaching in the Gaston City School System at L. V. Johnson Elementary School. She later relocated to Anniston and began teaching second grade at Fort McClellan Elementary School. Throughout her career, she continued higher education by doing graduate studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, receiving her master's degree. With the thirst for more knowledge, she decided to continue studying at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, receiving her Education Specialist degree. Additional studies were done at the University of Alabama, Jacksonville State University and Auburn University. Ms. Ware touched and influenced the lives of not only her family but numerous students she taught. She received many thanks for her teaching, guidance, influence, and concern for their well-being. She retired from Fort McClellan Elementary School. She was a member of the Campbell County Retired Teachers Association, lifetime member of NEA and AERA, Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Association, and a former member of the Calhoun County Civic Chorale. Jo Ann's commitment to family and friends was most admirable. She loved her family dearly and would help us any way she could. Her absence will be missed greatly. She leaves to cherish her memory four sisters, Vonnie W. Fleming, Julia E. Ware, and Negretta Ware Wilson of Anniston, Alabama, and Mary Ware Register (Perry) of Sumter, South Carolina; two brothers James E. Ware (Alma) of Selma, Alabama, and Schuessler L. Ware (Kim) of Anniston, Alabama; ten nieces, Michele Fleming Miles (Derrick), Mia Ware Jacobs (Robert), Erica N. Ware, Lucinda-Marie Ware, Kandria, Shana Johnson, Jenae Staples, Ashley Marie Ware Wilson of Wilson, Maryland, Brittany R. Ware Cammeron Jay) and Dr. Lauren Brianna Ware-Boggs (Preston); five nephews, Dr. John L. Jacobs, III (Pam), Lucius Vaughn Fleming, Attorney Kelvin D. Jones, God-son, Eric L. Register (Kelly), Ryan S. Ware, and Gregory L. Ware (Kaleef); and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful family friends.
