Jerome A. Siders

Mr. Jerome A. Siders, the only son of the late Mrs. Tommie L. Harris, began his earthly journey on December 16, 1954, in Anniston, Alabama. Jerome was a vibrant spirit who left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. At an early age, Jerome embraced his Christian faith and united with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he continued to strengthen his relationship with God. He was a faithful and active member of his church, sharing his vocal talents while singing with the Male Chorus and Mass Choir, while also serving as an usher, greeting all with his welcoming smile. Jerome received his formal education in the Anniston City School System, graduating with the Cobb Avenue High School Class of 1973 where he was a force on the basketball court and the football field. On the football field, Jerome proudly donned the #10 jersey as the starting quarterback, leading his team with confidence and determination. After high school, he honorably served his country for three years in the United States Army. Upon returning to civilian life, Jerome worked as a police officer in Georgia, embodying the spirit of public service and commitment to making a difference in the community. Eventually, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning A-1 Car Wash and The Corner Store. Later, he embarked on a rewarding career at the Anniston Army Depot and retired with 14 years of service. Jerome, affectionately known as Buckwheat, had an unwavering passion and deep love for all sports but he was a diehard Dallas Cowboys, Alabama Crimson Tide, and New York Yankees fan to the core. He poured his heart into cheering his teams through victories and defeats alike. Buck's biggest joy came from entertaining his family and friends and serving delicious food created with his incredible grilling skills. He had a warm and outgoing personality and a love for music and dancing which led to him becoming a co-founder of the social groups The Old Skool Boyz and The Gentlemen Club. Buck had a unique ability to make everyone laugh, never meeting a stranger. His sweet nature and generous heart touched countless lives, and he leaves behind a landscape of loving friends and cherished memories. While traveling on his earthly journey, Jerome met his soulmate, Misty Houston Siders, in Birmingham, Alabama. Their love story grew and blossomed into a bond that could not be broken. On May 23, 1998, the two became one as they joined in holy matrimony. Throughout 27 years of marriage, their partnership was a true testament to love, laughter, and companionship that inspired those around them. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Mr. Jerome A. Siders completed his earthly journey and transitioned from labor to reward. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tommie L. Harris and his sisters, Agnes D. Ingram and Beverly Siders. Jerome's memory will forever be etched in the minds and continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his devoted and loving wife, Misty Siders; children, Jankowicz (Miranda) McElderry, Pharhonda Lunnie, Raymarcus (Deaundra) Scott, Jerome Siders, Jr., Ceterrica H. (Julius) Fitten, Rodarius Houston, and Derrica Houston; grandchildren, Jaineka McElderry, Rajun McElderry, Jalon McElderry, Andrayas Scott, Ke'Ahsha Fitten, Julius G. Fitten, Ar'Cam Houston, Amia Kirksey, Amari Houston, Armani Siders, Jiraiya Fitten, Reign Houston, Jade Fitten, Chase Siders, and Hendrix Houston; sisters, Franklin (Lewis) Guy and Carla (Jansen) Hodge; father, Samuel Harris; Goddaughter, Tedeidra Long; and a host of other relatives and friends. As we reflect on Jerome's life, let us carry forward his spirit of happiness, kindness, and generosity. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
