Jennie Calhoun

Jennie was born on December 24, 1952, to the late Arthur and Isma Williams King. Her presence brought joy and warmth to the lives of all who knew her. Throughout her life, she remained dedicated to her faith, finding solace and strength in her unwavering relationship with God. She confessed Christ at a young age while attending Mt. Cleveland Missionary Baptist Church and throughout life she shared her love for Jesus with fellow congregants. Education played an important role in Jennie's life. She graduated from Talladega County Training School, known now as Talladega County Central High School. Embracing her talents, she joined the construction industry and became a dedicated Union Labor Member of Local 559 in Birmingham, Alabama. Jennie took pride in her work and was known for her strong work ethic and attention to detail. Family, however, held the most significant place in Jennie's heart. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds and extended beyond her immediate family. Jennie was always there to lend a helping hand and provided comfort and support to anyone who needed it. She had a knack for bringing people together and creating lasting memories. Jennie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and could often be found embracing the great outdoors. Music was her constant companion, and she found great joy in listening to melodies that touched her soul. Dancing was her way of celebrating life and letting her spirit shine brightly. Jennie Calhoun, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Jennie peacefully departed from this world on November 25, 2023, in Talladega, Alabama at the age of 70 years old while in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones. Jennie is now reunited with her parents, Arthur and Isma King, her loving son, John Calhoun, Jr., four sisters, Patricia Wells, Elvira King Calhoun, Mary Keith, and Lelia King. She leaves behind a rich legacy and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by those who survive her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her son, Johnathan Calhoun, her loving daughters, Jeanene (Kevin) Jemison, Sharonica Embry, Lisa (Darnell Kelly) Embry, Amy Armbrester. She will be dearly missed by her bonus daughter, Diedra Curry. Jennie's brothers, Roman (Paulette) King of Talladega, AL, Michael (Alma) King of St. Louis, MO, and Lewis (Deborah) King of Columbus, OH, will forever hold her in their hearts. Her sister, Vennie Taylor, will treasure the bond they shared. Jennie's loving spirit will live on through her adoring grandchildren, Jayanna, Ja'Niya, Makayla, Seth, Kristopher, Jafondric, JaKorria, Sherika, Lydia, Hannah, Ronetta, and Peninnah. She also leaves behind the father of her children, John M. Calhoun. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends will cherish the memories they shared with Jennie. Jennie's departure has left an indescribable void in our lives, but her memory will forever be etched in our hearts. As we mourn her loss, let us find solace in the love she shared, the joy she brought, and the lessons she taught us. May we honor her legacy by embodying her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Rest peacefully, dear Jennie. You have touched countless lives and will forever remain a beacon of light in our memories. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
