James Gover

James Ross Gover was born on August 28, 1947 in Pell City, AL to the union of L.C. Gover and Bernice Pellom Gover. James Ross was raised by his loving grandparents, the late Elex Pellom and the late Dora Threatt Pellom, who affectionately gave him the nickname "Bo". "Bo" was spoiled rotten by his grandparents. He was a longlife member of Bloominglight Baptist Church. James Ross found solace, guidance, and fellowship within the church community. Recently, he had joined under watch care with First Baptist Church Riverside, AL under the leadership of Pastor Billy Bedford. After graduating from St. Clair County Training School in the Class of 1968, he enlisted in the US Army. He served his country faithfully during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon returning to civilian life, he embarked on a career with the federal government as a Small Arms Inspector. Gover, as he was known on the job, took great honor and pride in his job as the weaponry he inspected later was used in the field by soldiers currently serving. With great dedication and skill, Gover served his country faithfully until his retirement in 2013 after working for 40 years and 7 months at the Anniston Army Depot. While James Ross dedicated himself to his work. He also enjoyed engaging in leisure activities that brought him joy. He was an avid sports enthusiast, finding delight in cheering on his favorite sports teams, traveling and he definitely loved the casino. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandson Brayden. He was the life of the party and you definitely knew when James Ross was around because you would definitely hear him even if you couldn't see him. His legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Throughout his life, James loved his family deeply, especially his babygirl Tawana. James Ross Gover, beloved father, brother, and friend, peacefully departed from this earthly realm at the age of 76 on October 7, 2023 while under the care of Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late L.C. Gover and the late Bernice Pellom Gover, son, Clendon L Gover as well as his sister, Willie L. Nobles. Although we deeply mourn James Ross's passing, we can find solace in the countless memories he leaves behind for his beloved daughters, Tawana L. Gover and Shakeya S. Green both of Pell City AL; brother, L.C. Gover, Jr. of Pell City, AL; sisters Mary Lois Mabry of Los Angeles, CA and Nolia Ann McGraw of Pell City, AL. James Ross was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Brandon Seth of Chesapeake, VA, Brayden James Gover of Pell City, AL and his great-grandchild, Yahsen Seth of Chesapeake, VA. James Ross shared a special bond with his niece, Sonya "Eyes" Nobles, and will be fondly remembered by nieces Cornelia Gover, Clarissa McGraw, Brigette McGraw and Lenieka Gover Portis and nephew Marcus Gover. As well as other great nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends. James Ross was loved and respected by many. His warm spirit touched the lives of those around him as he loved sharing the knowledge and wisdom that he gained in life with those that crossed his path. He leaves behind a legacy of strong familial bonds and cherished friendships. Among his closest friends were Linda Hamby, Vanessa Gamble, Nazarine "Beanie" Sanders and Tommy Sanders whose unwavering friendships he cherished. In this time of profound loss, let us remember the extraordinary impact James Ross had on our lives. May we find comfort in our shared memories and find solace in the love we have for him. James Ross will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy of love and kindness will be dearly missed.
