James Evans

Rev. James P. Evans was one of three children born to the union of Marvin Evans and Para Lee Burton in Talladega, Alabama on January 5, 1929. Rev. Evans 92-year life's journey has truly been a blessing to everyone he has encounter beginning with his youth. As a youth, Rev. Evans united with Mt. Zion CME Church in Alpine, Alabama. He attended school in the Talladega County School System and received his formal education at Pine Hill School. Upon completing school, James next path was to consecrate over two years of his life to his country by joining the U.S. Army in January of 1952. After nearly 3 years of dedication and serving his country, James was honorably discharged. During his devoted service to his country, James received a few military decorations and citations including ESM w/2 RCS, UNSM, EUC, GCM, and NDSM. James remained in California for many years starting his family once he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Mrs. Joyce Ann Evans. Together they raised four beautiful children. Once James retired, he returned to Anniston, Alabama and began working as a security guard until he felt it was time to devote all his quality time with his loving wife. Rev. Evans was a fun loving, kind-hearted, energetic person who loved gardening, music, and keeping an eye on the weather. He was known as the Father of his family of nieces and nephews. His passion was watching his WESTERNS with no interference. On Saturday, September 4, 2021, after God had graciously given James to us for ninety-two long earthly years, he felt it was time for him accept his heavenly wings to board the train to glory joining his parents, Marvin Evans and Para Lee Burton, brother, William Evans, sister, Willie Lee Burton, and son James D. Lucas, III. Leaving behind to cherish the many years of James loving memories are his loving and devoted wife, Joyce Ann Evans; one daughter, Rochelle Lucas of Los Angeles, California; two sons, Marvin Lucas and Mabvuto Carpenter both of Los Angeles, California; four grandchildren, Kenya J. Lucas of Los Angeles, California, Jamesha Lucas of Los Angeles, California, James D. Lucas, IV of Las Vegas, Nevada and Victor Lucas of San Diego, California; one daughter-in-law, Vickie Lucas of Anniston, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
