Henry Ester Carter

Mr. Henry Ester Carter, affectionately known as Hank, was born on April 27, 1941, in Oakwood, Texas to Mason and Fannie Carter. After relocating to Compton, California in 1956, he attended Willowbrook Junior High School and graduated from Centennial High School in 1959. After falling in love and marrying his high school sweetheart, Nathene, their union was blessed with three children: two sons, Henry Ester Carter Jr. and Andre Mason Carter (both preceded him in death), and a daughter, Thesseyvette Campbell-Williams and her husband, Samuel of Compton, California. To cherish his loving memory, Andre blessed them with six grandchildren, Alexis Carter, Fannie Carter, Andre Carter, Dontae Carter, Andreus Carter and Adria Carter and three great-grandchildren, Ahmari Bernoudy, Alijah (Alexis) Bernoudy, and Autumn (Andreus) Carter. To also cherish his loving memory, his loving daughter, Thesseyvette Campbell-Williams, blessed him with three grandchildren, her daughter Teaira J. Campbell (who preceded him in death), two sons, Henry N.H. "AJ" Campbell and Isaiah J. Campbell and a great granddaughter, Teyana Rose Campbell. Henry went on to become a local truck driver for a concrete company. He drove until he was involved in a terrible accident which left him unable to drive for a while. After an extensive recovery period, Henry started his own lawn and gardening service. While working, he met and fell in love with one of his clients, Gloria Jean. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1979. The lived in Carson California with their blended family that included Gloria's son Gregory DeArman and daughter Nicole DeArman. Gregory blessed them with them with three grandchildren, Gretta DeArman, Iesha Hill, and Treasure DeArman, and three great-grandchildren, Jaden Hill, Asia (Iesha) Hill, and Kilanya (Gretta) DeArman. Nicole blessed them with a grandson, Farman DeArman, and a great-granddaughter, Addisyn DeArman. After fully recovering from his accident, Henry embarked on entrepreneurship and became the owner and operator of HC Trucking Company. Henry relocated to Jacksonville, Alabama in the early 1990's for a more relaxed and slower paced lifestyle. He continued driving until he retired. After relocating to Alabama, he joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he was very active. He served as a deacon, Chairman of the Finance committee, a member of the church building fund committee, and a member of the Over the Hill Birthday Club. He volunteered as a deliverer for Meals on Wheels and as a mentor to the youth at church and in the community. Hank will be remembered for his love of family, taking vacations, fishing, camping in his motor home. Hank was known for talking mess while playing cards and dominos. He tried his hand at playing bridge, but got bored! For those who knew Hank would agree that he lived his life on Hanks terms. His infectious laugh will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Fannie and Mason Carter, sisters, Juanita White, Joyce Jones, Jerlima White, Etra Mae Simmons, brothers, Crawford Fantroy and Sherman Watson. In addition to Henry's immediate family, his memory will also be cherished by his sister Narvell Williams of Long Beach, California and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his church family. Henry's mother Fannie, father Mason, sisters Juanita White, Joyce Jones, Jerlima White, Etra Mae Simmons, brothers Crawford Fantroy and Sherman Watson, all preceded him in death.
