Gordon Stewart

Mr. Gordon Lee Stewart, the beloved son of the late Amory E. and Melon V. Stewart, began his earthly journey on June 23, 1945, in Pontotoc, Mississippi. He was cherished as a father, grandfather, brother and uncle, leaving a legacy of love and laughter. At a young age, Gordon embraced his Christian faith and enjoyed worshiping with Shaw Methodist Church, Rising Star Methodist Church, The Christian Center, and Word Alive International Outreach. He completed his education within the Anniston City School System, graduating from Cobb Avenue High School with the class of 1963. Along life's journey, Gordon met and married his soulmate and the love of his life, Mary Jean Hutcherson. This union was blessed with three children, two beautiful daughters and a handsome son. Gordon and Mary eventually relocated to Washington, D.C. where they resided for eleven years. In 1975, they made the decision to return to Alabama and made Anniston their home. Gordon, affectionately referred to as "Nick", was an experienced mechanic by trade. He was fortunate enough to share his mechanical skills while working at several auto body shops in Alabama and Georgia and at New Flyer of America. Beyond work, Nick was a true lover of golf, he could often be found on the green, swinging clubs with friends and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether he was traveling to a new destination or exploring different restaurants, Nick approached life with an infectious energy that made every moment enjoyable. His laughter was one of a kind and had a ripple effect on anyone in his presence. His vibrant personality and zest for life are treasures that will remain with us forever. On April 17, 2025, at the age of 79, Gordon L. Stewart, completed his earthly journey and peacefully transitioned from labor to eternal rest in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Stewart; parents, Amory E. and Melon V. Stewart; granddaughter, Erica Stewart; and brother, Otis L. Stewart. Gordon's precious memories will forever be cherished by his children, Anita (Billy) Driver of Huntsville, AL, Gordon (Paula) Stewart, Jr. of Anniston, AL, and Debra (Clyde) Hooten of Ramer, AL; grandchildren, Gordon (Brittani) Stewart, III and Tiffany (Cedric) Foster of Houston, TX, Latasha Thomas and Sheila Thomas of Montgomery, AL, and David Driver of Nashville, TN; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary E. Springer, Robert S. Stewart, and Delores (Thomas) Haynes of Anniston, AL; three sisters-in-law; and a host of other family members and friends. May Gordon's spirit, laughter, and love for life forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. Let us honor his memory with smiles and laughter, just as he would have wanted.
