Missionary Geneva Curry

Ms. Geneva Fomby Curry was born on January 18, 1949 to the parentage of Lewis Evans and Nellie Cunningham McCluney in Talladega County, Alabama. She was a beacon of light in the eyes of her beloved uncle and aunt, Myrtis Fomby, Sr. and Velma Moore Fomby, who had the pleasure of being a vital part of her life. A woman of unwavering faith, Ms. Curry's deep-rooted spirituality guided her throughout her life, as she dedicated herself to the church and her family. She found consolation in the embrace of her religious communities, leaving her indelible mark on Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Holy Hill Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and at the time of her passing she was a devoted missionary of House of Prayer COOLJC and Miracle Hill COOLJC under the leadership of her son-in-love, Bishop Designate Lavelle Smith and daughter, Elect Lady Conswella Smith. Her devotion to the ministry extended to her roles as a Sunday school teacher, devotion leader, choir member, usher, treasurer, secretary, pastor's aid, women council president, and missionary teacher, enriching the lives of those she encountered. Ms. Curry was a God-fearing woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. Ms. Curry was educated in the Talladega County School System and was a graduate of Talladega County Training School (TCTS) Class of 1967, known today as Talladega County Central High School (TCCHS). In her professional career, Ms. Curry's meticulous attention to detail shone bright as she served as a microwave inspector for Magic Chef. Following her retirement, she continued to shine in the education sector, generously dedicating her time to the nurturing of young minds at 10th Street Elementary School, where she collaborated with her cherished daughter, Conswella Smith. Along life's journey, Ms. Curry was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Willie Rogers Curry and to this union came the blessing of three loving children, Tara, Phelan, and Conswella. She loved her family beyond measures and would always make sure they were full in the word of God. She would always say "It's important to me that I am saved." Each day she woke up ready to praise God. She found happiness in studying the word, singing, and riding down the road thanking God with her children. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower gardens and admiring God's beautiful creations. She loved praising God and gave Him the glory at any place and time. While shopping with her daughters, they would often find her sitting in a chair witnessing to somebody and testifying about the goodness of God. When her children were young, she trained them in the way of the Lord early and would travel with them to neighboring churches as they sang "I'm Bound for Mt. Zion" and spoke inspirational words. Fondly known to family, friends, and her community as Momma, Granny, Momma G, Mother, Mother Curry, Genny, Gen, Aunt Gen, and GennyRinTinTin. To her children, she was their Queen. Ms. Curry's culinary prowess, generosity, and willingness to always lend a helping hand endeared her to all. Her lively presence, love for gardening, and vibrant holiday decorations brought warmth and joy to those around her. She was the prime example of "Love is not what it says, but what it does." She would do without to make sure others had what they needed, and she wanted to feed everyone who came by her home. She opened the doors for people to stay in her home and helped raise numerous children. She had many special relatives and friends who had their own special place in her heart. Although a pillar of our community has gone on before us, her memories will remain etched in all our hearts. As her favorite song says "O I Want To See Him" - On Wednesday, May 8, 2024 while in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family, the esteemed Ms. Geneva Fomby Curry, was able to see the eyes of the Lord as she gracefully made her grand entrance through those pearly gates joining her husband, Willie Rogers Curry, parents, Lewis Evans and Nellie McCluney, aunt and uncle, Myrtis Fomby, Sr. and Velma Fomby, grandsons, Brandon Drew Bennett and Adonis Trevon Curry, and sisters, Jacqueline Fomby and Lula McElrath. Ms. Curry's legacy of love, compassion, and fun memories will forever remain in the hearts of her son, SGM Retired Phelan Adonis (Rhonda) Curry; two daughters, Tara Renee Curry and Elect Lady Conswella (Bishop Designate Lavelle) Smith; brother, Myrtis Fomby, Jr.; sisters, Lizzie Bell Lynch, Josephine Fomby, and Bessie Lee McCluney; grandchildren, Quinton Collins, Ebony Curry, SGT Gariean Curry, Phelan L. Curry, and Jacob Fomby; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Kanara, Jayden, Kaniyah, Harmony, Quinton, Jr., and Kasyn; devoted nephew, Tyrone Fomby; devoted niece, Lequeda Fomby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends. Ms. Curry's unwavering faith, selflessness, and kind-hearted nature will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Let us join together in honoring her memory and legacy as we bid farewell to a remarkable woman who touched countless lives with grace and humility.
