Elgin Franks, Jr.

We gather here today to celebrate the extraordinary life of Elgin "Maurice" Franks, Jr. who was born on July 3, 1974, in Talladega, Alabama to Elgin Franks, Sr. and Rebecca Millender Franks. He brought joy and laughter to all those who were fortunate enough to know him. As a youth, Elgin attended Peace Missionary Baptist Church and later in life he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Van T. Welch. He received his education in the Talladega City School System where he attended Talladega High School. Elgin, known affectionately as "Maurice," was a resilient individual who faced life's challenges with unwavering strength and determination. Despite an unfortunate accident at the age of 16 that left him disabled, he never allowed his circumstances to define him. Instead, he embraced life with a sense of humor and a zest for living. With a deep love for sports, Maurice was an ardent supporter of the Alabama Roll Tide, always cheering on his beloved team. He found solace in music and had a true passion for good food. His infectious laughter and outspoken nature made him a cherished friend and a beloved member of his tight-knit community. Maurice's loving and devoted mother, Rebecca Franks, was always by his side and shared a special bond with him. He was her pride and joy, and she supported him through every triumph and tribulation. Maurice's loving memories will forever be remembered and cherished by his father, Elgin Franks, Sr. and mother, Rebecca Franks. Maurice will forever be remembered as a brother and protector to his four sisters, Linda Funderburg, Shunkeua (Andrew) Marrow, Zaria Suttles, and Asia Suttles; as an uncle to his nephews and nieces, Norman Funderburg, Brandon Funderburg, Hakeem Garrett, Cordero Marrow, Juaquin Marrow, ZaKylen Suttles, Heyden Suttles, Hevyn Suttles, Amuyah Garrett, and Amari Garrett who brought immense joy to his life; his loving memories will also be remembered by his bonus brother, Detrom (Joyce) Garrett; great-nieces, Celani, Naomi, Neveyah, Nathalie, Nova, and Nylah; great-nephews, Jer'marcus and Kaecyn; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. On January 3, 2024, Maurice peacefully departed this earthly realm surrounded by his loved ones at Coosa Valley Medical Center. While we mourn the loss of his physical presence, we take solace in knowing that he is now free from pain and suffering. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elgin Franks Wallace and Altavis Chatman and an uncle whom he always had a close bond with, Arnold Ray Franks. Maurice will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and his infectious laughter and vibrant spirit will continue to touch our lives. We extend our deepest condolences to his mother, Rebecca Franks, his father, Elgin Franks, Sr., and the entire family. May Maurice's soul rest in eternal peace.
