Edna Garrett

On November 9, 1955, the world was graced with the presence of Edna Earl Garrett, born to Earl Lee Curry and Gertrude Ragland Curry in Talladega, Alabama. With her laughter that could light up the darkest room and a spirit radiant with warmth and love, Edna enriched the lives of all who knew her. From her early years, Edna found a home within the community of Howard Chapel C.M.E. Church, nurturing a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She received her education in the Talladega County School System, attending Talladega County Training School and completing her studies at Talladega High School, where she laid the foundation of her remarkable life. Edna's professional journey led her to the poultry industry, where she became a certified processor with USDA standards, spending her dedicated years at Tyson Foods in Ashland, Alabama. Her work was not only a means of livelihood but also a testament to her strong work ethic and commitment to her family and community. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Edna was a passionate advocate for social issues, fiercely dedicated to creating a future of prosperity for her children and grandchildren. She fought for what she believed in, she called for understanding, and she raised her voice in love. On May 25, 2026, Edna transitioned to her heavenly home, joining her beloved parents, Earl Lee Curry and Gertrude Curry; her husband, Denson "Sonny Boy" Garrett; her son, Mark Garrett; her brother, Larry "Buck" Curry; and her cherished granddaughter, Quornesha "Nesha" Cross. Edna leaves behind a legacy of love and precious memories that will be forever cherished. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Christopher Curry of Talladega, AL and Denson Garrett of Katy, TX; fifteen grandchildren, Reginald Carter, Kayla Carter, Mark A. Garrett, Jr., Lailoni Garrett, Brandon Carter, Christopher L. Curry, Jr, Makariah Curry, A'lissa McNeal, Amare Curry, Aaliyah Howard, Sariah Howard, Kelan Garrett, Ziyana Curry, and Serenity Copeland-Garrett; eight great-grandchildren, Madelyn Carter, Noah Carter, Lana Carter, Aiden Carter, Kayden Carter, Kristopher Carter, Bali Carter, and Kennedy Carter; two nephews, Quintavious Curry and Charles Curry; five daughters-in-laws, Charletta Womack, Stephanie McNeal, Tasha Taylor, Jessie Lomelli, and Latesha Copeland-Garrett; aunts, Lavern Phillips, Ernestine Ragland, and Marion Ragland; uncles, Marshall Ragland and Danny Phillips; close friend, Jometa Vell; and a network of aunts, uncles, close friends, and a host of other beloved relatives and friends. Let us gather to reflect, remember, and celebrate the life of a beautiful soul; who in her quiet strength and steadfast faith, illuminated our lives. Edna's laughter, warmth, and love will forever echo in our memories, reminding us of the deeply cherished moments that will continue to inspire us in the days to come.
