Dorthena Turner

Born on June 22, 1933, in Pell City, Alabama, to Clarence and Sarah Liazer Threatt Singleton, Mrs. Dorthena S. Turner's journey was marked by steadfast faith, love for family, and a melodic spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her. From an early age, Mrs. Dorthena devoted herself to her faith, joining Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cropwell, Alabama, where she first embraced the teachings of Jesus Christ. Later, she united with Blooming Light Baptist Church alongside her husband, sharing her gifts as a dedicated choir member. Mrs. Dorthena's soulful voice, which echoed with songs of hope and perseverance such as "The Storm is Almost Gone" and "Through the Years, I Keep On Toiling," will be forever remembered as a symbol of her vibrant spirit. Mrs. Dorthena spent many years working at Avondale Mills in Pell City, where her commitment and industriousness earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. After a fulfilling career, she retired, embracing life's simpler joys while remaining dedicated to her family and community. Mrs. Dorthena S. Turner, cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Pell City community, peacefully departed this earthly life on June 5, 2026, at the age of 92, embraced with the love of her family in the comfort of her home. She now joins her beloved husband, Mr. Cornelius Milton Turner, Jr., and her cherished son, Mr. Rory A. Turner, along with her sister, Mrs. Robina S. Shepard, in eternal rest. Mrs. Dorthena's legacy of love and resilience will continue to resonate through the lives of those she touched. Mrs. Dorthena is survived by her devoted son, Mr. Arturo S. (Pamela) Turner; daughter-in-law, Mariecia Turner; cherished grandchildren, Maurice Turner, Justin (Candace) Turner, Amanda (Kharee) Barclay, Rechelle (Faison) Echols, Rolanda Turner, and Rory Turner, Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Donna (Thomas) Posey, Mrs. Lorraine (Tommy) Allen, and Mrs. Peggy Threatt; close friend, Mrs. Nora Lee Morris; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. In this time of sorrow, let us remember Mrs. Dorthena not only for the years she graced us with her presence, but for the warmth of her smile, the strength of her spirit, and the legacy of love that continues on through her family and friends. May she rest in peace, and may we celebrate the life she lived and the love she shared.
