Donnell Pitts

Donnell Anthony Pitts was born on December 6, 1983, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the cherished son of Rena Elizabeth Pitts and Lamont Purcell Powell. Donnell's journey of life was one marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. Donnell accepted Christ at an early age, becoming a beloved member of the New Psalmist Baptist Church, where his faith blossomed and flourished. A distinguished graduate of Southwestern High School in 2001, he pursued further education at Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). An epitome of dedication and versatility, Donnell embarked on a diverse career path, displaying his work ethic at United Parcel Service (UPS) and Johns Hopkins University in food and transport services. For the past 13 years, he served at Mercy Medical Center, where he began in food services and rose to the esteemed role of Operating Room Equipment Technician. These years of dedicated service were filled with meaningful connections, lifelong friendships, and the profound impact he made on colleagues, physicians, nurses, and patients alike. Donnell was many things-a devoted son, a cherished brother, and a steadfast friend. To his parents and siblings, he was their personal protector, loving them with his whole heart and soul. To his entire family he brought unmeasurable pride and joy. His spirit was indomitable, and his heart was as vast as the universe itself. If one had the privilege of earning Donnell's friendship, they discovered a companion for life, someone who never met a stranger. His kindness and generosity were traits that defined him, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. His laughter resonated through family gatherings, and his loving nature created bonds that were felt deep within the hearts of those close to him. Donnell's many passions encompassed cooking, dancing, and a love for travel and the Spanish culture. His lively spirit made every moment memorable, whether it was at Otakon or simply enjoying the company of loved ones. A gentle giant, Donnell was known for his immense heart and boundless love for those around him. His kindness and warmth resonated deeply, especially within the hearts of his family and friends. He relished in joyful fishing trips with his grandfather, Richard "Pop," and engaged in lively debates with his late grandmother, "Janie Pill," which brought a spark of laughter into their lives. His relationship with his father, Lamont, evolved beautifully over time, reflecting deep love and understanding. He and his sister, Deirra, shared a bond filled with memories of art, music, and an unspoken language that only they understood-a true partnership for life. Donnell was always a steadfast support for his dear mother, Rena, ready with a reassuring touch and his familiar words, "Come on, momma, I gotchu." Donnell transitioned from this life to a peaceful rest at the tender age of forty-one on the morning of July 9, 2025 in the comfort of his sister's home while vacationing with his mom, a true testament to the love he had for his family. He is now reunited with all his loved ones who have reach the heavenly realm. Donnell leaves behind a loving legacy, which will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted mother, Rena Elizabeth Pitts; father, Lamont Purcell (Carolyn) Powell; brother, Terrence (Nicole) Powell; sisters, Deirra Pitts, Cierra Powell, and Tenaia (Larry) Powell; grandfather, Richard (Carolyn) Pitts; grandmothers, Peggy Powell and Mary Mallory; aunts, Robin (James) Nelson, Joycelyn Evans, and Eugena Pitts; uncles, Larry Hamilton, Darryl (Sundra) Mallory, and Reginald Garrett; great-aunts, Bernice Threatt and Louise Hamilton; great-great aunt, Catherine Davis; great-uncles, Charles (Eloise) Hamilton and Paul Hamilton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, other relatives, and friends each carrying the essence of Donnell's spirit in their hearts. Donnell's footprints may no longer grace this earth, but the love he imparted and the lives he touched will continue to shine brightly long after his departure.
