Demetrius Pope

Born on May 16, 1974, in Sylacauga, Alabama, Demetrius Pope was raised with unwavering love by his devoted parents, Bishop Ben Pope and Dorothy Morris Pope, who instilled in him a strong foundation of family values, compassion, and joy for life. Demetrius's spirit illuminated the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. A proud member of New Victory Tabernacle under his father's leadership, he embraced his faith and forged lifelong friendships during his time at Talladega High School. A dedicated public servant, he devoted over 25 years to the Alabama Department of Corrections, ascending to the rank of Lieutenant, where his commitment and dedication were palpable. With a vibrant personality and an infectious smile that could light up the darkest of days, Demetrius had an unparalleled love for his family. As a father, he reveled in every moment spent with his beloved children, creating a tapestry of cherished memories filled with laughter, warmth, and love. His passions ranged from playing the piano, a gift he mastered effortlessly, to golfing and cheering passionately for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Beyond his interests, Demetrius found joy in sharing meals in the company of family and friends, ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and valued at his table. Demetrius Pope, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jim and Miranda Morris, Bennie Pope and Rosetta Pope, and his son, Demetrius Pope, Jr. Demetrius leaves all his fun loving memories to forever be cherished by his loving daughter, Danetria Pope; two sons, Demetri Pope and Demerrin Pope; parents, Bishop Ben Pope and Dorothy Pope; three sisters, Kimberly Pope, Karen Pope, and Benita (Ronyan) Stokes; long-time companion/spouse, Candrece Hamilton; two grandchildren, Karlee Green and Kanari Green; nephew, Ethan Stokes; uncles, Anderson (Barbara) Pope, Matthew (Eula) Morris, and Eddie B. Morris; aunts, Beulah Lawler, Martha Jones, and Ollie Hill; special cousins, Patrick Jones, Brandon Jones, and Jonathan Jones; sisters-in-law, Wilmeshia Lynch, Alfreda Lynch, and Valencia (Kevin) Castleberry; special friends, DeWarren Smoot and Casey Burk; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends whose lives he touched deeply. In this time of sorrow, let us find solace in the shared love we hold for Demetrius Pope and draw strength from the joyous memories that will forever keep his spirit alive among us. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we always remember the light he brought into our lives.
