David Mims

Mr. David Lee Mims, Jr. was born on July 19, 1948, in Autauga County, Alabama, to the union of David Lee Mims, Sr. and Lagusta Caver Mims. He was cherished as a son, a father, a brother, and a friend, leaving an indelible legacy of love and compassion. Mr. Mims completed his education within the Calhoun County School System, culminating in his graduation from Cobb High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, being drafted in 1967 and serving honorably in Vietnam. Following his military service, David dedicated himself to his work in textile mills and ultimately spent many years as a skilled mechanic at The Anniston Army Depot, retiring as a respected employee who was known for his steadfast commitment. David was a man who relished life's simple pleasures. He was often found playing dominoes, casting his line at the riverbanks in pursuit of "the big one," or celebrating special moments with family and friends through joyous birthday parties. A lover of games of chance, he sought out the thrill of the slots, ever hopeful for "the big win." However, on a quiet day, you could find him relaxing and watching his "Westerns" on his favorite TV stations, GRIT or INSP. In 1972, David united in marriage with the love of his life, Cynthia Dorman Mims. Family was everything to Mr. Mims; he rejoiced in the time spent with his daughters and extended family, always cherishing every precious moment. On January 26, 2025, while in the comfort of his home surround by his beloved family, Mr. David Lee Mims, Jr. peacefully answered the Master' call saying "Well Done They Good and Faithful Servant". Once gaining his wings, he was reunited with his wife, Cynthia Dorman Mims, parents, David and Lagusta Mims, siblings, Leola Godhigh and Eddie Mims, and brother-in-law, Troy Berry. His life was a testament to faith, love, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Mims leaves behind a legacy of love to forever be cherished in the hearts of his two daughters, Valencia Ann Lucas of Marbury, Alabama and Stacey Mims (John) Wynn of Munford, Alabama; four grandchildren, Bre'Yuna Gambles of Conyers, GA, Shankita (William) Tarver of Oxford, Alabama, Johnnetta Mims and ShaVera Mims, both of Munford, Alabama; six great-grandchildren, DeAsia Simmons, Abriyah Wilson, Jayceon Tarver, Jasiah Tarver, Mason Mims, and Graceigh Swain; five sisters, Rosie Berry and Patricia Mims , both of Anniston, Alabama, Lavetta Jenkins of Eastaboga (Richeytown), Alabama, Shirley Ann (Charlie) Shugars of Anniston Alabama, and Linda Mims of Oxford, Alabama; brother-in-law, Percy Godhigh of Anniston, Alabama; sister-in-law, Sharon Mims; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. In this time of mourning, let us remember David not only for the profound impact he had on our lives but also for the legacy of love, faith, and resilience he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace as we celebrate all that he was and all that he continues to be in our hearts.
