David Chatman

David "DC" Chatman, a remarkable son, husband, father, brother, and friend, graced this world with his presence on August 27, 1950, born to Frank Chatman, Sr. and Maggie Burt Chatman in Talladega, Alabama. As one of ten children, he emerged from a family rich in love and spirit. From an early age, David embraced his faith, uniting with Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he began a life dedicated to service and community. He was educated in the Talladega County School System, culminating in his graduation from Ophelia S. Hill High School. David's journey took him to Houston, Texas, where he ventured into the construction industry, working diligently for nearly a decade. It was there, through the introduction by his sister Annie, that he met the love of his life, Ms. Bertha Bryant. Their union blossomed into a beautiful marriage spanning nearly fifty years, filled with love and the joy of raising six wonderful children. After a brief time in Atlanta, the Chatman family returned to Alabama, where David's true passion for music unfolded. He founded "DC's Place," a beloved establishment he proudly ran for over 45 years, becoming a cherished figure in the community, where friendships flourished and memories were created. David's enthusiasm extended to coaching softball, where he inspired many young athletes, imparting lessons of teamwork and perseverance. Known affectionately as "DC," he was a beacon of generosity and strength. His unwavering love for his family remained a constant, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. With a heart as large as his smile, he provided for his family and embraced his siblings with open arms whenever they gathered. David's love for his wife was a testament to true partnership and devotion, and their bond is a love story for the ages. Mr. David "DC" Chatman answered the call of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his cherished wife, Bertha. He was welcomed home by his beloved parents, Frank and Maggie, Chatman, Sr., sister, Betty (Robert) Webster, and brothers, Alex Chatman and Woodrow Chatman. As we reflect on the legacy David leaves behind, we gather to celebrate a life beautifully lived. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Bertha Chatman; his beloved sons, Reginald Chatman and William Terry; his cherished daughters, Regina Chatman, Tracy Chatman, Arlisa Terry, and Yolanda Terry; two loving brothers, Hugh (Jackie) Chatman and Frank (Tricia) Chatman, Jr.; four adoring sisters, Mattie Chatman, Dessaline (David) Webster, Annie Richard, and Merlis Wright; an extended family, the McMillians, who loved him dearly; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As we grieve, may we also celebrate the beautiful tapestry of moments woven through David's life-a life of love, laughter, faith, and service. Though he may have departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us with warmth and wisdom. Rest in peace, beloved DC. Your legacy lives on in each of us.
