Darneil Kite

Born on August 15, 1967, in Anniston, Alabama, Darneil was the cherished son of Perry B. Jennings and Madlean Kelley Kite. From a young age, Darneil accepted Christ and aligned himself with Miracle Revival Temple, cultivating a sense of faith and community that would guide him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Anniston High School Class of 1985, where he shone not only academically but also athletically, participating passionately in the school's sports programs. Darneil's dedication to service led him to the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant during his decade-long commitment as a Field Artillery Canon Crew Member. His service was honored with several commendations, including the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Drivers Badge, Expert Qualification Badge (Rifle M16) and 1st Class (Hand Grenade). Beyond his military service, Darneil became a beloved figure in his community, renowned for his spirit of mentorship and empowerment. As the founder and president of the South Highland Cowboys Football Team, as well as a coach and president for the East Alabama Gators, he poured his heart into inspiring young athletes. His enthusiasm for sports extended to basketball, where he also coached, instilling in many the values of teamwork and perseverance. Darneil's influence reached far and wide, impacting the lives of young men who have gone on to compete at the Division 1 level. In quieter moments, Darneil found joy in nature, often relaxing by the riverbanks or in tranquil waters, where he would cast his line in hopes of the day's big catch, always accompanied by music and song. His love for cinematic storytelling, grilling, and caring for pets reflected the warmth and vibrancy he brought to every interaction. During football season, Darneil enjoyed watching his favorite teams, The Alabama Crimson Tide and The Dallas Cowboys. He will be missed immensely by all the hearts he has touched and lives he have encountered. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Mr. Darneil Kite, affectionately known as "Koach," to family and friends transitioned from this earthly journey to his eternal resting place at the age of 57 while in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry B. Jennings and Madlean Kite, son, Jarneil Kite, grandparents, William L. Kelley, Charlie C. and Nearee D. Kelley, Carley Jennings, Sr. and Ora D. Jennings, sister, Betty Ann Kite, aunts, Julia Pearl Brown, Joanne Fluker, and Eva Mae Rainery, and uncle, Charlie Cleofus Kelley, Jr. Darneil leaves behind a rich legacy that includes his loving children, Jamila Lanier, Angela Kite, Tyreke Kite, and J'Mya Kite, bonus daughter, Timaria Caldwell; special son/grandson, DeAngelo Kite; grandchildren, Darius English, Elijah Lanier, Chance Lanier, Zion English, Olivia Taylor, Jasmine Kite, and Jayce Kite; siblings, Thomas Earl Kelley, Anthony Kite, Roger Kite, Tyrone Kelley, Kenneth L. Jennings, and Beverly Jean Kite (Michael) Turner; aunts, Gloria Franks (David) Coleman and Mary Grier; special aunt, Nina Ammons; uncles, James Jennings, Melvin Gene Lowery, and Billy Rogers Lowery; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, coaching colleagues, and countless friends who will miss him dearly. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us honor his memory by cherishing the lessons he imparted and the lives he touched. Darneil Kite will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light illuminating our paths with the strength, power, and love he so effortlessly shared. In honor of Darneil's indomitable spirit and love for family and community, a view of his life through pictures and stories will be shared, ensuring that the memories he created will live on in all who were touched by his kindness.
