Claudia Cannon

"Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate" Proverbs 31:31 Claudia Mae (Benjamin) Cannon (82), of Hendersonville, TN, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 5, 2025. Claudia was born on March 3, 1943, to Claude and Lucille Benjamin in Talladega, Alabama. She spent her early years in the community she called home until 1966, when she moved to Canton, Ohio. A devoted mother, she cherished her five beautiful daughters, lovingly referring to them as her "Jackson Five." Claudia shared 22 years of marriage with Marcus Samuel Cannon of Cleveland, Ohio. She worked at the Olympic Plating Company where she demonstrated dedication and a great work ethic. In retirement, she found deep fulfillment in becoming a foster parent, providing stability, love, and guidance to children who needed it most. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life-she instilled strong Christian principles in her family and was deeply committed to her church communities. In her younger years, she attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega, AL, and later became a long-time member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, OH. Beyond her devotion to faith and family, she was an exceptional cook who treasured the warmth of gathering loved ones, especially during holidays and family reunions. She found joy in fishing, playing bid whist, listening to the blues, and embracing the simple pleasures of life with grace and enthusiasm. She was an unconditional giver with a sweet spirit. Claudia was the 5th of 14 children and was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lucille Benjamin, brothers Jerry Benjamin, George Benjamin, and Joseph Benjamin and sisters, Billie Ruth Benjamin, Willie Mildred Benjamin Grant, Ora Dee Benjamin, and Barbara (Jean) Alma Benjamin Berry. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Marcus Cannon of Clevland, OH; her daughters, Patricia (Albert) Lewis of Riverdale, GA, Denetta (Ralph) Fassett of Fayetteville, NC, Darlene Jackson of Stockbridge, GA, Rhoda Jackson of Canton, OH, and Lucinda (Henry) Jefferson of Hendersonville, TN; her sisters, Pearlie Benjamin Tanner, Vista Benjamin, Josie Benjamin, and Wendell Benjamin Calhoun, all of Talladega, AL; brothers, Clarence Benjamin of Pell City, AL, Truman Benjamin of Montgomery, AL; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; special friends, Barbara Berry, Samella (Sam) Chapman of Canton, OH, and Linda Johnson of Columbus, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her life was a testament to faith, resilience, class, love, and unwavering strength-values that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
