Charles G McKenzie

McKenzie "Boobie" was born on March 16, 1964 in Talladega, Alabama, to the union of Larry Neal McKenzie and Rosa Lee Castleberry McKenzie. He was one of six children. Minister Charles was educated in the Talladega City School System and was a graduate of Talladega High School. Minister Charles was employed at Wehadkee Yarn Mills, Tyson Foods, and later became a private contractor in environmental services doing what he loved and always had a passion for, buffing and cleaning floors. He was very meticulous and detailed when it came to the appearance of floors. In his spare time, he enjoyed washing his cars, reading, studying his bible, watching sports, and painting. He was a fan of Auburn "War Eagle" Tigers and the Los Angeles Lakers. In his youthful days, he loved playing basketball with the Knoxville Community. Minister Charles was baptized in Jesus Name and received the gift of the Holy Spirit at a young age while attending Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega. Later in life, he was led by the Almighty to continue working as a servant of the Lord when he united with Faith Temple Ministries under the leadership of Pastor James Curry. It was during this time that Minister Charles was educated and rooted with the Word of God which eventually led him on the path to being a Soldier for God. He taught Sunday School classes and was a member of the Deacon Ministry and Janitorial Ministry. He expanded his knowledge and teaching in the word after he completed his studies at Faith Christian Institute on May 27, 2005. Minister Charles was a true model of Titus 1:8 as he was a great leader and a man of integrity that refused to compromise on matters of principle. He was about his business and God's business. As time passed, Minister Charles continued serving and working in the Lord's vineyard when he made Eden Westside Baptist Church in Pell City his church home under the leadership of Pastor Jacky Connell. He served as one of the Life Discovery Group Teachers and periodically gave words of biblical encouragement on Men's Night Out. He was honest and trustworthy and dedicated his life to sharing the word of Jesus Christ to all. He was concerned about the lives of others, especially his wife, children, family, and the people that God had entrusted under his care. He faithfully sowed into the lives of others. He was a good listener and a great spiritual mentor that spoke with correction and direction. Minister Charles was always firm and respectful to all he encountered and when he spoke, he said what he meant and meant what he said. On May 10, 1985, Minister Charles McKenzie took the hand of his soulmate and the love of his life, the former Ms. Pamela Thomason as they were united in Holy Matrimony becoming one and sharing over 37 years of a blessed marriage. To this union, they were blessed with three loving children, Calvin, Sharmeka, and Charnetta. He loved his family unconditionally and would go above and beyond to make sure they were they were taken care of. On May 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, Minister Charles G. McKenzie transcended to his heavenly home. He answered the Master's call saying "Well Done Good and Faithful Servant, because you have been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many, enter thee into the joy of thy Lord" to join your parents, Larry and Rosa Lee McKenzie and brother, Gary "Gabo" McKenzie. Precious memories will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Pamela McKenzie; son, Calvin Porter of Niagara Falls, New York; two daughters, Sharmeka Dye of Talladega and Charnetta McKenzie of Huntsville; two brothers, Larry McKenzie and Craig McKenzie; two sisters, Felisa (Walter) Keith and Adrienne (Octavius) McKenzie; special grandson, Dequavion Wright whom he raised as his own; six grandchildren, Melvin, Sequoia, Camarie, Kendarius, Catori, and Chace; three great-grandchildren; special niece, D'Jarris McKenzie; nieces and nephews, Antaneshia McKenzie, Dameshia Whitson, Shay Wilson, Jackie Wilson, Jordan McKenzie, Gary Estelle, and Carlton Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
