Carlton Dark

Born on September 6, 1978, in Talladega, Alabama, to Judy Dark and Leamon Jemison, Carlton's legacy of music, love, and kindness will resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him. From a young age, Carlton embraced his faith in Christ, joining Smith Chapel C.M.E. Church. He later found his spiritual home at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where under the guidance of Pastor Clarence Henderson, he joyously served as a choir member and became an integral part of "The Voices of Worship." Carlton's beautiful voice was a testament to his faith, and his rendition of songs like "Something About the Name Jesus" (which was the last song he sung) will forever echo in the hearts of his audience and listeners alike. He was educated within the Talladega County School system where he attended Munford High School. Carlton exemplified dedication not only in his music but also in his steadfast commitment to uplifting those around him. Known for his warm smile, infectious energy, and generous spirit, Carlton carried a passion for singing that illuminated his life. He shared his gifts with those fortunate enough to hear him, bringing joy and comfort even through the storms he faced. Throughout his life, courageous and faithful, Carlton never wavered in his belief that prayer and song would sustain him. Outside of his compassion for helping others, Carlton was known for his warm smile, beautiful voice, and infectious energy, embodying the spirit of friendship that he cherished with loved ones. His passion was singing, with or without music, which brought joy and peace to him, although there were many times in his life, he endured numerous storms and heartaches, along with his share of pain; but Carlton kept the faith and continued praying, believing, and trusting in the Lord. He knew his prayers and singing would give him the courage to continue. Carlton was very talented with a gifted voice and will always be remember for his generous heart. As we prepare to honor Carlton's life, we reflect on the love he shared with his family and friends, and the cherished memories that will forever bind us. On Tuesday evening, May 13, 2025 while in the care of Miller County Hospital, Carlton Lamar Dark, answered the call of his Master and joined his new choir, "The Heavenly Choir". We can hear him singing two of his favorite songs, "I Come from a Poor Family, didn't have Much, But The Lord Has Been Good To Me" because "He Knew a Change Was Going to Come". He now rests in eternal peace, reunited with his loving mother, Judy Dark, father, Leamon Jemison, grandparents, Willie C. Dark and Thelma Brown Dark, Thurman and Willie Jemison, sisters, Eulalia "Yogi" Sistrunk and Denise Dark, II, brother, Leander Boyd, aunts, Margie Jemison, Avyline Dark Bradley, Pauline Hardnett, Linda Curry, Cora Lee Taylor, Louise Jemison, Mary Joyce Steen, and Willie Emma Madison. Carlton leaves behind cherished memories that will lovingly be remembered by his brothers, Derrick Dark, Thomas (Marietta) Jemison, Jr., Shannon (Amber) Sistrunk, Edward Sistrunk, Dave Sistrunk, and Kenneth Boyd; sisters, Kim (Jesse) Russell, Dawn Boyd, Yolanda Sistrunk, and Benita (Greg) Sistrunk; very special cousin, Brandi Dark; aunts, Wendolyn (Edward) Richardson, Denise Dark Pearson, and Yvonne Arnold; uncle, Willie Dark, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. As we commemorate Carlton's life, let us remember him as a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering faith-a true servant of God whose memory will inspire us forever. May he rest in eternal peace, singing among the stars in "The Heavenly Choir."
