Bonnie Smith Bankston

Bonnie Smith Bankston who was born on March 23, 1967 in Talladega, Alabama, was the beloved daughter of Leroy Smith and Mary Emma Cunningham Smith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and commitment to her faith. A devoted member of Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church in her youth, Bonnie continued her spiritual journey in Decatur, Georgia, where she became an active participant at Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, illuminating the paths of those fortunate enough to know her. Bonnie's educational pursuits began in the Talladega County School System, culminating in her graduation from Lincoln High School. Her professional journey in the finance sector was marked by her tenacity and leadership as she held several managerial roles, and she was dedicated to furthering her knowledge by pursuing her license in theology at the time of her passing. As Bonnie traveled this earthly journey, she was blessed with three loving children, John, Bonquita, and Chauncie, all of whom she loved with all her heart. These four were inseparable. Bonnie loved her grandchildren and her grand-fur baby unconditionally, but she got a thrill out of aggravating her bonus sister, Wanda. She met no stranger and loved talking and reading. In her warm presence, she found joy in engaging conversations, exploring new ideas, and sharing laughter, especially with her beloved sisters, Connie and Mary Ellen. Her spirit, marked by love and friendship, will be profoundly missed but eternally celebrated. Bonnie will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments but, more significantly, for the immense love she radiated as a mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren, as well as her beloved grand-fur baby, were the light of her life, and her generosity knew no bounds, as she would have given the shirt off her back for anyone in need. The lovely Bonnie Smith Bankston gained her heavenly wings and peacefully accepted her Master's call on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the age of 57, while in the care of Emory Healthcare in Decatur, Georgia surrounded by loved ones. Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents, Leroy and Mary Smith, her beloved husband Anthony Bankston, Sr., who passed on February 23, 2025, brother, Ronnie Cunningham, and sister, Beverly Brown. Bonnie's legacy of love and her sweet spirit will live on and forever be cherished and remembered by her loving and devoted children, John (Robin) Smith, Chauncie McClellan, and Bonquita (Michael) McLeod; bonus daughter, Kimberly Duncan; grandchildren, Jaliyah Smith and Kaleb Smith; grand fur baby, "Missy"; bonus children, Anthony Bankston, Jr., Tarnesha Bankston, Angel (Dread) Bankston, Brandon Bankston, and Bria Bankston; brothers, Travis (Pamela) Smith, Victor (Rosanna) Smith, Leroy (Marion) Smith, and Derald (Sheree) Smith; sisters, Carolyn Sims, Mavis Wilson, Mary Ellen Caldwell, Connie (Johnny, Jr.) Henderson, Sharon (Troskey) Twymon, and Sheryl (Jesse) Garrett; bonus sister, Wanda Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In reverence to Bonnie's remarkable life and the love she bestowed upon others, we are happy to honor her memory and legacy, while ushering her spirit into eternity. We are beyond grateful to have family and friends unite with us in this reflective gathering. The cherished memories of Bonnie Smith Bankston will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know and love her.
