Billy Wilson

Mr. Billy Wilson, a cherished son, devoted father, and beloved friend, was born on September 13, 1948, in Talladega, Alabama, to the union of Sam Wilson and Mildred Jemison Wilson. Billy accepted Christ at a young age and united with Tinney Street Church of Christ. Billy received his formal education within the Talladega City School System, graduating from Westside High School before embarking on a fulfilling career in the foundry industry as an iron worker. His dedication to his work was matched only by his lifelong passion for sports, especially his beloved Alabama Roll Tide-a source of joy and team spirit throughout the seasons. He was renowned as a good political debater, effortlessly proving his point through practical thinking techniques. Billy affectionately known as "Bill" was known for his spirited debates, displaying a remarkable ability to articulate his views with passion and insight while maintaining a keen sense of humor. Dubbed the "Family Historian", Billy could tell you everything about the family tree, and not only could he humorously share the ins and outs of family business, but he also would tell everyone else's business - yet he kept his own affairs private. Billy took great pride in recounting stories of his lineage and had an uncanny ability to recall the intricate details of the family tree, ensuring that the stories of his ancestors were never forgotten. He was the confidant of many and was gifted at sharing tales about the lives and loves of those around him. During his younger years, in the dance of life, Billy never hesitated to step onto the floor. His love for music made him a captivating presence at any gathering, and he was known for his joyous, impromptu dance performances-often sharing his moves and teaching others to do the same, embodying a spirit of carefree joy and celebration. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. On Sunday morning, January 5, 2024, the Lord peacefully released from all pain, Mr. Billy Wilson, and called him home for eternal rest while in the care of Citizen's Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his beloved family. Preceding him in death were his parents, Sam and Mildred Wilson, and brothers, Sylvester Wilson, Robert Wilson, Bruce Wilson, and Tyrone Wilson. Billy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and knowledge that will forever resonate in the hearts of his children, Fanita Bishop and Demarkus (Jasmin) Bishop; grandchildren, Brayden Bishop and Braxton Bishop; brothers, Woodrow (Shirley) Wilson, Dewitt (Rena) Wilson, and Wayne Wilson; sisters, Benita (Harry) Gooden and Barbara Spratling; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly. As we reflect on the life of Billy Wilson, we remember the lessons he imparted, the love he shared, and the joy he spread throughout his life. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that he will forever be a part of our hearts and histories.
