Barbara Turner

Barbara Jean Turner started her earthly journey on February 3, 1957, in Pell City, Alabama. She was the third child of Burnese Turner and the late James A. Turner, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bloominglight Baptist Church in Pell City. She was educated in the St. Clair Couty School System and the Anniston City School System. Barbara graduated from Anniston High School in 1975. While attending Anniston High, she was a member of the marching band where she was a proud 1st chair alto saxophone player. After high school, Barbara attended Jacksonville State University. Barbara eventually entered the workforce seeking employment at several cotton mills including Chicopee Manufacturing Company, Adelaide Mills, and Union Yarn. She was a hard worker and later became employed by Wendy's and worked her way up to Assistant Manager. She loved yardwork. She had a gift for transforming an ordinary yard into something spectacular. Through her love for yardwork, she acquired numerous customers and became self-employed. In 1999, she became a caregiver for her mother. Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures - playing games, dancing, and always bringing a sense of fun to those around her. She was always eager to play her favorite game, Farkle. She was a determined soul, never backing down from a challenge and approaching life with a "can-do" attitude. She was a straight-shooter, known for speaking her mind with honesty and clarity. Barbara's love for sports, especially football, was evident to all who knew her. She was a passionate fan of the Auburn Tigers football team. On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Barbara completed her earthly journey and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her father, James A. Turner, Sr., her sister, Joyce F. Turner Pray and her brother, James A. Turner. She will be missed by her daughter, Angel Turner of Stockbridge, GA; mother, Burnese Turner of Pell City, AL; sisters, Alma Turner of Anniston, AL, Princie (Frankie Lee) Young of Anniston, AL, Debra (Jonathan) Norfleet of Mobile, AL, Kimberly (Eric) Rogers of Flowery Branch, GA, Sharon Elston of Montgomery, AL, and Tracy (Jamal) Parker of Flowery Branch, GA; brothers, Freddie L. (Joanne) Turner, Sr. of Birmingham, AL and James A. Turner, Jr. of Lithonia, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow at Barbara's passing, let us take comfort in the memories of her laughter and love and let us honor the spirit of a woman who lived life to the fullest.
