Anthony Barclay

Mr. Anthony Bernard "Bull" Barclay, a beloved member of the Mardisville community was born on May 10, 1956, to the parentage of Mathie Lee Ashley and Hattie Barclay. Mr. Barclay's life was characterized by faith, community, and love. Throughout his earthly journey, Mr. Barclay found comfort and purpose in his unwavering faith, having accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age while attending Africa Missionary Baptist Church. Alongside this, he also shared fellowship with the congregation of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, growing in spiritual maturity and dedicating his life to serving his faith and community. Anthony pursued his formal education at Winterboro High School, and later found fulfillment working as a laborer in the construction industry with Brasfield and Gorrie. His days were often filled with laughter and joy, whether he was sharing a hot cup of coffee with loved ones before sunrise or engaging in spirited games of spades and dominoes with friends. Known affectionately as "BULL" to his cherished family and friends, Anthony's infectious smile and laughter brightened the lives of all who knew him. If he did not make you laugh, something was definitely wrong with you. His talents were as diverse as they were remarkable, earning him the nickname of "The Jack of All Trades." He passed on his wisdom and skills to his sister, Pamela, imparting lessons like the art of frying chicken, a memory she will forever cherish and hold very dear every time her fried chicken "FOATS" (as he would say) to the top. He will truly be missed. A man of simplicity and warmth, Anthony always found joy in the little things - from harvesting wild onions in Enterprise, Alabama, to cheering on his beloved Auburn football team; however, fishing was his true passion, and he found solace in casting his reel on the serene banks waiting on the "BIG CATCH". His gentle demeanor and generous spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. On Sunday morning, October 20, 2024, Mr. Anthony Bernard "BULL" Barclay departed this earthly realm while in the care of Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama surrounded by loved ones. He was reunited with his father, Mathie Lee Ashley and brother, James Cook. Survived by his devoted wife of over 24 years, Willie Mae Barclay, Mr. Barclay was a cherished husband and pillar of strength within his family. His steadfast commitment and strong love will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched including his daughter, MaShonda Shadale (Loran) Chatman-Truss; bonus daughter, Lisa Antionette Whiteside; son, Antonio Learmester Chatman; bonus sons, Christopher Maurice Whiteside and Willie Dee Whiteside; loving mother, Hattie Barclay; eight grandchildren, Keeon Chatman, Kendrick Truss, Karmin Truss, Ketera Chatman, Fabian Chatman, SunJai Millender, Endae Embry, and Asthon Swain; two bonus grandchildren, D'Amonte Barber and D'Mauri Whiteside; ten brothers, Robert Barclay, Starling Barclay, Rickey (Emma) Barclay, Henry Lee (Marilyn) Willis, Patrick Ashley, Harold "BoDidley" Twymon, Andrew "Bob" Shepard, Troy (Emma Jean) Garrett, Nicky Garrett, and Jasper (Shirley) Garrett; eight sisters, Beverly Barclay, Rose (Tracey) Garrison, Marilyn Loretta Barclay, Pamela (Lamont) Scott, Sheila Ashley, Shirley Cook, Doris (Johnny) Johnson, and Carolyn McMillan; special friend, Berika "Goob" Welch; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly. As we prepare to bid farewell to a cherished soul, let us come together to celebrate the life, love, and legacy of Mr. Anthony Bernard "Bull" Barclay, a man whose presence illuminated the lives of all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing and may his spirit find eternal rest in the embrace of the Divine.
