Annie Wills

On March 9, 1935, in Talladega, Alabama, Johnny Carmichael and Nona Thornton Carmichael welcomed to the world a baby girl and gave her the name Annie Joe Carmichael. At an early age, Annie committed her life to Christ and united with Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church serving faithfully until her health began to fail. She was educated in the Talladega County School System where she attended Talladega County Training School. Annie was employed with the Talladega County Courthouse system in environmental services as a custodian. After years of working, Annie decided to retire to spend more quality time with her loved ones. During Annie's 89-year earthly journey, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Bishop Wills and to this union came the blessing of eight loving children. Known affectionately as "Madea" by her family, friends, and community, Annie was a loving and caring person. She was very outspoken and did not mind telling you what was on her mind. She enjoyed nice gifts, but money being her favorite. She also enjoyed talking to her sister on the phone every day. Sitting outside, cooking, and singing was just a few of Annie's hobbies, but reading her bible was a must. She loved going to church and reading her bible. Annie held a unique place in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known her. Family meant the world to Annie, and she loved her family unconditionally. In the afternoon of April 10, 2024, after 89 blessed years, God called for his angel, Annie Carmichael Wills to accept her heavenly wings and take her rest while surrounded by her beloved family. She was welcomed home by her parents, Johnny Carmichael and Nona Thornton, son, Henry Wills, daughter, Jeanette Wills, granddaughter, Denellia Wills, eight brothers, Sidney Thornton, Sr., Charles Carmichael, Sr., Fred Carmichael, Harold Carmichael, Nathaniel Carmichael, Lawrence Carmichael, John-Edd Carmichael, and James Carmichael. Mrs. Annie Joe Wills leaves a legacy of love and fun memories to forever be cherished by her loving and devoted children, four sons, Sylvester (Benita) Wills, David (Cassandra) Carmichael, Herbert Wills, and Darrell Wills, all of Lincoln, Alabama; two daughters, Denetha (Thomas) Petty and Polly Hunt both of Lincoln, Alabama; sister, Edna Skipwith of Mulga, Alabama; very special nephew, Wiley Wills; two sisters-in-law, Louise Carmichael and Teresa Carmichael; many special friends; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
