Amanda Josephine Woods

Amanda J. Woods, daughter of the late Georgia Pete Forbes and John Wesley Forbes, graced this world with her presence on May 9, 1934, in Anniston, Alabama. Amanda's parents made sure she had a solid foundation in her spiritual life. Because of this, she confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age and united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hobson City. She attended public school in Calhoun County and graduated from the Calhoun County Training School. Upon receiving her diploma, she sought gainful employment as a housekeeper and later as a sewing machine operator at Genesco in Hobson City. Not only was she a hardworking individual, but she was also known for her baking skills, blessing those around her with her delicious cakes. With a caring heart, Amanda cherished and loved her family above all else, especially her children. She was their pillar of strength and always put their needs above hers. A devout Christian, Amanda's life was guided by her faith, and she lived each day with grace and dignity. On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Amanda answered the Master's call and entered through the pearly white gates to be with her husband John Henry Woods, Jr., her son Gerry Woods, her parents John Wesley Forbes, Sr. and Georgia Pete Forbes, her brothers, Reverend John W. Forbes, Jr., Ernest Forbes, Reverend Isaac Forbes, Sr., Eugene Forbes and Samuel Forbes, her sisters, Alice Brooks, Eula Strong, Ruth Whitaker, Rilla M. Forbes and Gladys Forbes, and her sisters-in-law, Inez Forbes, Yvonne Forbes, and Georgia Forbes. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters Karen Ball, Melissa Woods, and Lisa Woods all of Hobson City, and Portia Cunningham of Columbus, OH; her son, Donald Ward of Tennessee; her sister, Lucille (Ulysses) Conley; her sister-in-law Valeria Forbes; her brother-in-law, Franklin (Helen) Woods of Birmingham, AL; her grandchildren, Krystal Ball, Christopher Ball, Lanette Woods, Shanice Woods, Tameria Woods, Anthony Woods, Marcus Woods, Darius Woods, and Deonta Cunningham, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Amanda's legacy of love and kindness will forever be cherished. May her spirit continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
